Requesting credentials from a non-Funnel user

This feature enables you to access a non-Funnel user's data source credentials easily and safely.

Updated yesterday

This feature is available to users on the Business and Enterprise plans.

When connecting any data source to Funnel, you can authenticate using one of the following two options:

  • Add your credentials

  • Request credentials from a non-Funnel user who has access to the account you want to connect to Funnel

Step 1: (For Funnel user) Request credentials from the non-Funnel user

Complete the following steps to request credentials from a non-Funnel user.

  1. In your Funnel workspace, go to Connect > Data sources.

  2. Search for the connector and select it.

  3. In the Select credentials step of the connection workflow, click Request access > Generate link > Copy link.

Note: Generating a link is secure and eliminates the need to invite people to Funnel to add only their credentials.

  4. Share the link with the non-Funnel user.

Step 2: (For non-Funnel user) Grant permissions to the Funnel user for accessing data

Complete the following steps to grant access to the Funnel user.

  1. Open the URL that the Funnel user shared in a browser.

  2. Click Start authentication.

  3. Log in to your account.

  4. Select what the Funnel connector can access and click Continue.

Specify the access level. Choose the accounts the Funnel user should get access to. You can give full access or limited access. Full access gives access to all your accounts connected to the credentials now and in the future. Limited access lets you grant access to only specific accounts for the Funnel connector.

  5. After you grant access, notify the Funnel user.

Step 3: (For Funnel user) Resume the connection workflow

Complete the following steps to resume the connection workflow.

  1. In your Funnel workspace, go to Connect > Data sources.

  2. Search for the connector and select it.

  3. In the Select credentials step, you will find the credentials you requested from the non-Funnel user. Select the credentials and resume the connection workflow.

FAQs

Can I reconnect a Data source with an external Credential?

You can use an existing Credential marked with 'External' to reconnect. If the Credential you need to reconnect with doesn't exist in Funnel yet, you can send a link to a non-Funnel user to get access from the Reconnect flow.

If the receiver of the link successfully authenticates with the same Credential as the broken Data source is connected with in the first place, the Data source will automatically start working again. If the reciever successfully adds a brand new Credential, you as the sender needs to manually reconnect Data sources with the newly added Credential.

How can the external person revoke their Credentials?

There are three ways in which you, or the external person, can make the added Credential unusable. These actions will also break any imports set up using your Credentials.

If the external person wishes for Funnel to no longer process and store the credentials, option 1 is the only alternative.

  1. Remove the credentials and the data sources connected to it. This is done on the ‘Data Sources’ page and ‘My Credentials’.

  2. For most larger platforms, one can manage third-party connections (e.g., Funnel) in the platform itself. By removing Funnel from that list, the Credentials in Funnel will break immediately, and there will be no successful imports in the future. Below is a list of platform-specific instructions on how to remove third-party connections. Note that historical data imported using the Credentials will remain until you remove the Data Sources authenticated with those Credentials.

  3. For platforms where the external person manually inputs an email, password, API token, entity ID, or similar when authenticating, access can be revoked by changing the password or refreshing the API token in the platform. The credentials in Funnel will break immediately, and there will be no successful imports in the future. Note that historical data imported using those Credentials will remain until you remove the Data Sources authenticated with those Credentials.
