Getting started with Funnel AI

Open Funnel AI, ask questions about your data, save results, and remember workspace preferences across sessions.

Note: Funnel AI was formerly known as Data Chat.

Funnel AI is Funnel's conversational assistant. Use Funnel AI to explore your marketing data in the workspace or get product guidance from Funnel's help documentation. Ask questions about metrics, dimensions and campaigns; how to use Funnel, field definitions, and troubleshooting; and get answers with charts, tables, and explanations.

How to open Funnel AI in your workspace

Requirements

  1. Click Funnel AI in the left navigation pane.

  2. Select New chat for full view, or click Ask Funnel AI in the top navigation on any page to open the chat widget.

  • Access to your Funnel workspace.

  • Available on all Funnel plans.

If you do not see Funnel AI in the left navigation, your workspace admin may need to grant you access.

What you can do with Funnel AI

  • Ask natural-language questions about your metrics, dimensions, and campaigns.

  • Get instant visualizations with automatically generated charts and tables.

  • Attach screenshots (PNG or JPEG) and ask questions about what you see.

  • Save charts and selected text from responses to dashboards.

  • Open results in Data Explorer for deeper analysis.

  • Ask how-to questions about Funnel features, field explanations, and product guidance.

  • Save business rules and preferences to your workspace so Funnel AI remembers them across sessions, or add workspace instructions and skills manually for your team.

  • Upload reference documents under Context > Documents so Funnel AI can search them during chat.

The chat widget stays available as you move between pages in the same workspace. Messages sync in real time between the widget and full view, so you can start in the widget and continue in full view without losing context.

By default, Funnel AI uses data in your workspace from connected sources. That gives one place to query across your setup. For platform-specific views, say so in your question or open Data Explorer from a result.

Use Funnel AI

Follow these steps to use Funnel AI. The workflow guides you through opening a chat, asking questions, reviewing results and saving insights.

1. Open Funnel AI

Choose how you want to work:

  • Top navigation (any page): Click Ask Funnel AI in the top bar to open the chat widget.

  • Chat widget: Minimize the widget to keep working elsewhere, then restore it from the tab at the bottom of the screen. Your conversation continues in the same thread.

  • Full view (left navigation): Click Funnel AI in the left navigation pane, then select New chat.

In full view, you see the main chat input and conversation starters. Use the left navigation under Funnel AI and Context to move between areas:

Under Funnel AI:

  • New chat: Start a new conversation.

  • Chat history: Open past conversations.

  • MCP: Copy Funnel MCP connection details for external AI tools (see Connect Funnel MCP from Funnel AI).

Under Context:

Below the input, use one of the conversation starters such as Skills, Get started, Compare, Analyze trends, and Data quality to run common questions or open your team's skills.

Select New chat to start a new conversation, or open an existing chat from Chat history.

2. Ask a question

  1. In the chat interface, type your question. Type @ for context or / for skills, or enter your question directly.

  2. (Optional) Attach one or more images:

  3. Click the + button next to the input field and select PNG or JPEG files, or paste an image into the input.

  4. You can attach up to five images per message (10 MB each). Ask about screenshots from Funnel, ad platforms, charts, or dashboards.

  5. Press Enter or click the send icon to submit your question.

Note: Funnel AI processes your question and may show Thought for a few seconds while it plans the query and generates results. Expand this option to see how Funnel AI derived your results.

You can ask about:

  • Specific metrics or dimensions, for example: Show me spend by channel for the last 30 days.

  • Performance comparisons, for example: Compare ROAS across my campaigns.

  • Trends over time, for example: What's my impression trend for the last week?

  • How to use Funnel features, for example: How do I create a custom metric?

  • What you see in an attached screenshot, for example: Why does this chart show no data?

3. Review your results

After Funnel AI processes your question, you see:

  • Visualizations: charts or graphs showing your data.

  • Tables: detailed breakdowns with metrics and dimensions.

  • Summaries: natural-language explanations of the findings.

Note: Output formats may vary. As you continue asking questions and give feedback, Funnel AI refines its responses to better match your needs.

4. (Optional) Open results in Data Explorer

  1. Below any chart or table, click Open in Data Explorer.

  2. In Data Explorer, modify filters and dimensions, add metrics, create custom calculations, or export the data.

Note: Use Data Explorer when you need deeper analysis or more control over your data view.

5. (Optional) Save charts to dashboards

  1. After Funnel AI generates a chart, click Save to dashboard below the visualization.

  2. Choose an existing dashboard or create a new one.

  3. The chart is added to your selected dashboard and can be shared with your team.

6. Ask follow-up questions

  1. In the same chat, type a follow-up question related to your previous query.

  2. Continue asking questions to explore different aspects of your data.

Funnel AI may also suggest follow-up questions for you to explore.

7. (Optional) Manage your conversations

Click Funnel AI in the left navigation pane, then select Chat history to open past conversations.

  1. Select a chat from the list and review previous questions and answers. Use Find chats... to search by title.

  2. To rename a chat, open the row Actions menu and select Rename Chat.

  3. To delete a chat, open the Actions menu and select Delete Chat.

Note: Chats are private to each user and cannot be shared with other workspace members. Chats that are inactive for more than 60 days are automatically deleted. To keep important conversations, save charts to dashboards or export the data.

8. (Optional) Give feedback

  1. For each response, use the thumbs-up or thumbs-down icons to rate the response.

  2. Click Feedback to enter detailed feedback in the free-text field.

You can also reach out to your Funnel contact to share feedback about Funnel AI.

9. (Optional) Save workspace context for future chats

Funnel AI can remember business rules, KPIs, and preferences you share in conversation and save them as workspace instructions that apply to every future chat in the workspace.

  1. State a preference in chat (for example, which platforms or metrics to default to).

  2. When Funnel AI asks whether to remember it for future conversations, confirm.

  3. Funnel AI saves the instruction to workspace context. Open Context > Instructions to review, edit, or delete saved items.

Alternatively, skip chat and add an instruction directly: open Context > Instructions, click Add instruction, enter your rule and click Save. Instructions apply to every user in the workspace, whether you create them from chat or on this page. Saving from chat or adding manually requires permission to edit the workspace.

Result

After you complete these steps, you have a conversation with charts, tables, or text answers you can open in Data Explorer or save to dashboards. You can return to the same chat from the widget or full view while you work in your workspace.
