Troubleshoot: Authorization with the MCP server failed in Funnel MCP

Resolve Funnel MCP connection failures that show an authorization error with an ofid support reference before you can use MCP tools.

Problem summary

You try to connect Funnel MCP in your MCP client and authorization fails before you can use any Funnel MCP tools. The error asks you to check credentials and permissions and includes an ofid_ support reference.

Error message or symptoms

Authorization with the MCP server failed. You can check your credentials and permissions. If this persists, share this reference with support: ofid_xxxx

Your MCP client shows this during the connection or authorization step. The ofid_ value is different for each failure and is not your password or API key.

This is not the same as a token_exchange_failed error on tool calls after OAuth appears to succeed. If OAuth completes but tool calls fail afterward, that is a separate issue.

When does this occur

  • When you add or reconnect Funnel MCP in an MCP client such as Claude desktop, Claude Code or another MCP-compatible tool

  • During the authorization step, before any Funnel MCP tool calls succeed

  • When your MCP server URL and Funnel sign-in look correct but the client still cannot authorize

Root cause

Intermittent MCP authorization issues

Solution

  1. Confirm your Remote MCP server URL matches your Funnel region:

    • Global (default): https://mcp.ai.funnel.io/mcp

    • EU: https://mcp.eu.ai.funnel.io/mcp

Copy Server URL from Connect Funnel MCP in Funnel AI full view (Data > Analyze > Funnel AI) if you are unsure which URL to use.

  2. Confirm you can sign in to Funnel in your browser with the same account you use for MCP authorization.

  3. Remove the Funnel MCP connector from your client, add it again with the correct URL and complete OAuth in a new chat or session.

  4. If the error persists, contact Funnel support. Include:

    • The full error text, including the ofid_ reference

    • Your MCP server URL

    • Your MCP client (for example Claude desktop or Claude Code)

    • Your Funnel workspace name, if known

    • When the issue started

  5. Retry the connection in a new session after support confirms any account or service update.
