Configure the Google Ads data source to report at the Asset or Ad level so Funnel can import creative images.
Before you begin
You have a Google Ads data source.
You can edit the data source configuration.
Required settings
Setting | Value |
Report type | Standard |
Report level | Asset or Ad |
Use Asset if you want to analyze individual creative assets. Use Ad if you want creative images alongside ad-level performance data.
Configure the data source
Open your Google Ads data source.
Select Standard as the report type.
Set Report level to Asset or Ad.
Save the data source.
What to expect
Asset level
The data source imports asset-level records. You can then analyze creative assets individually.
Ad level
The data source imports ad-level records with a creative image for each ad. The image depends on the ad type:
Ads with their own image (for example, image ads): Funnel uses the ad's own image.
Ads without their own image (for example, Responsive Search Ads): Funnel uses an image extension from the ad's ad group. If the ad group has none, Funnel checks the campaign and then the account. If more than one image extension is available, Funnel shows one of them.
Video ads: Funnel uses the YouTube video thumbnail as the creative image.
Limitations
HTML5 (media bundle) ads: No creative image is available, because the Google Ads API doesn't provide a preview for these ads.
Video ads: Funnel shows a thumbnail image only. Playable video previews aren't available.
If creative data is missing
Verify the data source uses the Standard report type and the Asset or Ad report level.
For ad-level data sources, check that ads without their own image have image extensions at the ad group, campaign or account level.
Check whether the affected ads are HTML5 (media bundle) ads, which have no creative image.
Refresh the data source after you update the configuration.
