Troubleshoot missing values caused by the (other) row in GA4

Reduce missing dimension values when Google Analytics 4 (GA4) groups less common values in the (other) row.

Problem summary

You can see missing Google Analytics 4 (GA4) dimension values in Funnel when GA4 groups less common values into the (other) row.

Error message or symptoms

  • Expected dimension values do not appear in Funnel.

  • One or more dimensions contain the value (other).

  • Detailed values disappear when you add more dimensions.

When does this occur

  • The request includes dimensions with many unique values.

  • The data source includes several dimensions.

  • The data source includes high-cardinality custom dimensions.

Root cause

GA4 Reports, Explorations and the Analytics Data API can group less common values into the (other) row when a request exceeds cardinality limits. Every dimension in that grouped row uses the value (other), so the individual values are not available to Funnel.

Solution

  1. Remove dimensions that you do not need from the data source.

  2. Remove custom dimensions when standard dimensions provide the required information.

  3. Avoid high-cardinality dimensions when you need complete individual values.

  4. Import the data again and check whether the expected values appear.
