Troubleshoot `TOO_MANY_ROWS` in Power BI

Understand the Power BI monthly data limit and what to send to Funnel support when an export fails to load.

Problem summary

You cannot load a Funnel export in Power BI when one month contains more data than the connector can return.

Error message or symptoms

Power BI returns the error TOO_MANY_ROWS.

When does this occur

  • One month in the export exceeds the export limit.

  • The Rolling months range includes that month.

Root cause

The Power BI export limits how much data it can return for one month. The error shows that one month exceeds the limit. It does not show why a previously working export started to fail.

The export history and first failure date do not identify the cause or the affected month. The error also does not mean that a data source stopped downloading.

Solution

Do not reduce Rolling months unless you know the affected month and a shorter range excludes that month without removing history you need in Power BI.

Rolling months loads a trailing range that ends with the current month. When you reduce the value, Power BI excludes the oldest months from the range.

  1. Check the Rolling months value in Power BI.

  2. If you know the affected month, reduce Rolling months until that month is outside the range.

  3. Contact Funnel support if any of these conditions apply:

    • You do not know the affected month.

    • The affected month must stay in the range, even when you can exclude other months.

    • The error continues after you reduce the range.

  4. When you contact support, include the Power BI export link, the complete error message and the first date when the export failed.

Reducing Rolling months shortens the history that Power BI loads. Use this only when you can exclude the affected month.
