Data mismatch in Video Average Watch Time metrics

Understand why Video Average Watch Time per Video View or per Person may differ from TikTok Ads Manager.

Video Average Watch Time per Video View or Video Average Watch Time per Person in Funnel do not match the totals you see in TikTok Ads Manager when you aggregate across multiple days or rows.

Error message or symptoms

There is no error message. Watch time values look correct at a detailed level but differ when you sum or blend rows in Funnel, dashboards, or exports compared with TikTok Ads Manager.

When does this occur

  • You use Video Average Watch Time per Video View or Video Average Watch Time per Person in reports or exports

  • You aggregate data across dates or group rows without splitting by date

Root cause

These metrics use MAX aggregation at the source level of detail. Funnel does not roll up rows the same way TikTok Ads Manager does when you combine multiple days or levels. Averaging or summing pre-aggregated rows in Funnel can produce different results than TikTok's UI.

Solution

Break down reports and exports by date when you use these metrics. Compare Funnel to TikTok Ads Manager at the same date granularity before you aggregate further in a dashboard or warehouse.
