Manage budgets using Funnel MCP

Rename, archive and restore budgets using Funnel MCP.

Ask your AI client about the budgets in your Funnel workspace. You can also rename a budget, change its description and archive or restore a budget, after you approve each change. This works in any client connected to Funnel MCP, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Cursor.

What you can do

Through Funnel MCP, you can:

  • List active and archived budgets, and read the details of one budget.

  • Rename a budget or change its description.

  • Archive a budget.

  • Restore an archived budget.

Through Funnel MCP, you can't:

  • Create budgets. To create one in Funnel, see Create a budget.

  • Change anything other than a budget's name and description, for example its dates or amounts. Make those changes in Funnel.

Funnel MCP never changes a budget without your approval. The client first prepares the change and shows you what will change. The change runs once, and only after you approve it in the conversation. Your client may also ask for its own approval before it runs the change. A prepared change expires after 30 minutes. If it expires, ask the client to prepare it again.

Before you begin

  • You have an AI client connected to Funnel MCP. To connect one, see Quick start guide: Using Funnel MCP.

  • To change, archive or restore a budget, you have the Edit budgets, Edit fields and Edit data sources permissions in the workspace. If your role doesn't include them, Funnel MCP tells you, and you can ask a subscription owner for access. For more about roles, see Workspace: User roles.

Ask about your budgets

Ask the client which budgets the workspace has, or ask about one budget to see its details. For example:

  • Which budgets do we have in this workspace?

  • Show me the archived budgets.

  • Show me the details of the Marketing budget 2026 budget.

Rename a budget or change its description

  1. In your AI client, ask for the change in plain language. For example: Rename the Marketing budget 2026 budget to Paid media 2026.

  2. Review the change the client shows you. Nothing changes yet.

  3. Approve the change in the conversation. If your client asks for its own approval to run the tool, approve that too.

Archive a budget

  1. In your AI client, ask the client to archive the budget. For example: Archive the Q1 paid social budget.

  2. Review the change the client shows you.

Note: Archiving a budget also deletes the budget's data source until you restore the budget.

  3. Approve the change in the conversation. If your client asks for its own approval to run the tool, approve that too.

Restore an archived budget

  1. In your AI client, ask the client to restore the budget. For example: Restore the archived Q1 paid social budget.

If you're not sure of the budget's name, ask the client to list your archived budgets first.

  2. Review the change the client shows you.

  3. Approve the change in the conversation. If your client asks for its own approval to run the tool, approve that too.
