Stale formula data in Google Sheets

Refresh formula results that appear in Google Sheets but have not been imported into Funnel.

Problem summary

Formula results in your Google Sheet can change without updating the values in Funnel. This issue can occur when a formula imports or looks up data from another spreadsheet.

Error message or symptoms

The values shown in Google Sheets are newer than the values available in Funnel after an import.

When does this occur

  • Your connected sheet uses a formula such as IMPORTRANGE.

  • The formula result changes without a direct edit to the connected sheet.

  • Funnel checks the sheet before Google Drive reports that the file was modified.

Root cause

Funnel checks the file's modification details to determine whether a connected spreadsheet changed. These details are file metadata. Google Drive does not always update the metadata when a formula refreshes. As a result, Funnel might not detect the new formula result.

Solution

Google Drive has no setting that makes every formula-only update change the file metadata. Funnel cannot detect the new result until Google Drive reports a direct change to the connected sheet.

Workaround

Create a direct edit to update the Google Drive metadata:

  1. Add a temporary value to the connected sheet. This edit makes Google Sheets recalculate the sheet and mark the file as modified.

  2. Remove the temporary value.

  3. Wait for the next scheduled import, or retry the import.

  4. Check whether the updated values appear in Funnel.

  5. Contact Funnel Support if the values still do not update.
