Troubleshoot `Insufficient plan` in Ahrefs

Connect your Ahrefs data source in Funnel when the connection fails with an Insufficient plan error because your Ahrefs plan doesn't include API access.

Problem summary

You can't connect an Ahrefs data source in Funnel. The connection fails with an Insufficient plan error.

Error message or symptoms

Insufficient plan

Your Ahrefs data source doesn't connect and Funnel doesn't import any Ahrefs data.

When does this occur

  • You connect a new Ahrefs data source or reconnect an existing one

  • Your API key comes from a free Ahrefs account or from a plan that doesn't include API access

Root cause

Ahrefs deprecated its legacy API (v2) on October 1, 2025 and moved to API v3. API v3 requires an API key tied to a paid Ahrefs plan with API access. When you connect with an API key from a free account or from a plan without API access, Ahrefs rejects the request and Funnel shows the Insufficient plan error.

Solution

  1. Check whether your Ahrefs subscription includes API access. To compare plans, see What's the difference between all Ahrefs subscription plans? and How are latest plans different as compared to the old/legacy plans? in the Ahrefs help center.

  2. If your plan doesn't include API access, upgrade to a paid Ahrefs plan that does.

  3. In Funnel, go to Data > Connect > Data sources.

  4. Connect a new Ahrefs data source, or reconnect the existing one, with an API key from your paid Ahrefs plan.

  5. Check that the data source connects. Funnel imports your Ahrefs data on the next scheduled download.
