Ask an AI client connected to Funnel MCP, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Cursor, to add a data source or change an existing one. Your AI client shows you each change and makes it only after you approve it in the conversation.
What you can do
From your AI client, you can:
List the connectors and data sources in a workspace.
Add a data source.
Rename a data source, turn its downloads on or off, include or exclude it from Funnel, reconnect it or switch it to another Funnel template.
Delete a data source and restore a deleted one.
Through Funnel MCP, you can't:
Use your own data source templates. Funnel MCP supports only Funnel's preset templates. To use your own template, set up the data source in Data > Connect > Data sources. For more about templates, see What are Data Source Templates and how do I use them?
Add a data source for a connector that your workspace can't use. Funnel MCP offers only the connectors your workspace can use.
Finish the setup of every connector. If a connector needs setup options that Funnel MCP doesn't support, your AI client tells you to finish the setup in Connect.
To do the same tasks in a chat inside Funnel, see Manage data sources in Funnel AI.
Before you begin
You have an AI client connected to Funnel MCP. To connect one, see Quick start guide: Using Funnel MCP.
You have access to the workspace. This is enough to list its connectors and data sources.
To add, check or change a data source, you have permission to edit data sources in the workspace: the workspace Editor role, or Data Source Editor where granular roles are available. Without it, Funnel MCP tells you: "Editing permission is required to create or manage data sources in this workspace. Ask a subscription owner for Editor access, or Data Source Editor access if granular roles are available."
To add a data source, you have an account on the connector's side with access to the data you want to import.
Add a data source
In your AI client, ask for a new data source and name the connector and the workspace. For example:
Add a Google Ads data source in the Acme workspace.
Note: If the connector's setup isn't supported through Funnel MCP, your AI client tells you to finish the setup in Connect. Go to Data > Connect > Data sources to finish it.
Choose the connection, the sign-in Funnel uses for the connector. If only one connection fits, it's selected for you.
Note: If you aren't signed in to the connector, your AI client gives you an Open Funnel sign-in link. Open the link and sign in, then ask your AI client again.
Choose the account to import data from. You choose the account even when there is only one.
Choose a template. You choose the template even when there is only one.
Review the new data source that your AI client prepares. Nothing changes in Funnel yet.
Approve the data source in the conversation within 30 minutes. Your AI client might also ask for its own approval before it runs the tool. If the change expires, ask your AI client to prepare it again.
Each setup creates one data source. Your setup choices are kept for 1 hour.
Change a data source
In your AI client, ask for the change and name the data source. For example:
Turn off downloads for the Google Ads Brand data source.
Review the change. Your AI client first checks the data source's current settings and then shows you the exact change.
Approve the change in the conversation. If the data source changed after the check, Funnel refuses the change. Ask your AI client to check the data source again.
Change | What happens |
Rename | The data source gets the new name. |
Turn downloads on or off | Turning downloads off stops future downloads. Data that's already downloaded stays. |
Include or exclude from Funnel | Excluding the data source removes it from Funnel reporting but doesn't stop downloads. |
Reconnect | The data source uses another connection. |
Switch template | The data source uses another of Funnel's preset templates. |
Delete or restore a data source
Delete a data source
In your AI client, ask to delete the data source and name it. For example:
Delete the Facebook Ads test data source.
Review the change. Your AI client checks the data source first.
Approve the change in the conversation.
Funnel keeps deleted data sources for 31 days. Data that's already downloaded isn't removed.
Restore a data source
In your AI client, ask which data sources were deleted. For example:
Which data sources were deleted in the Acme workspace?
Ask your AI client to restore a data source from that list.
Review the change and approve it in the conversation.
Go to Data > Connect > Data sources and check the restored data source. Downloads and reporting might not start again on their own.
Data source tools available in Funnel MCP
Your AI client selects these tools for you. You don't need to name them.
Tool | Type | Description |
| Read | Lists data sources in the workspace, up to 100 per page. You can filter by name or connector. |
| Read | Lists deleted data sources that you can restore. |
| Read | Lists connectors. |
| Setup | Walk through adding a data source: pick the connector, the connection, the account and the template. The setup is kept for 1 hour. |
| Write (prepare) | Prepares the new data source from your setup choices. |
| Write | Creates the data source you approved. |
| Read | Checks the current settings of a data source before a change. |
| Write | Renames a data source. |
| Write | Turns downloads of new data on or off. |
| Write | Includes or excludes a data source from Funnel reporting. |
| Write | Connects a data source to another connection. |
| Write | Switches a data source to another Funnel template. |
| Write | Deletes a data source. |
| Write | Restores a deleted data source. |
What to expect
The data source shows your change in Data > Connect > Data sources. A new data source exists as soon as you approve it, but Funnel MCP doesn't check its first download. Check the data source to confirm that data arrives.
