Prepare data from several organic social connectors so you can compare followers, engagement, views and post types across channels.
Before you begin
Confirm that you can connect data sources and create dimensions and metrics in the Funnel workspace.
Confirm that you can access the organic social accounts that you want to connect.
Decide which key performance indicators (KPIs) you want to compare. Common KPIs include followers, impressions, engagement, views and performance by post type.
Connect organic social data
Connect each organic social account to Funnel.
Select the report types that contain the fields you need:
Connector | Report types |
Facebook Pages | Post Insights and Page Non-aggregatable Insights |
LinkedIn Organic | Video Metrics, Update Metrics and Follower Metrics |
X Organic | Post Activity and User Insights |
YouTube | Time-based |
Instagram Insights | Account Insights and Media Insights |
Note: You might need to connect the same account more than once. Each data source can use one report type, and the required fields can be in different report types.
Create standard dimensions
Organic social connectors can use different field names for similar content. Use Funnel's standard rules to create common fields for cross-channel reporting.
Go to Dimensions.
Click + Create with Standard Rules.
Add these dimensions:
Organic Social Post Content
Organic Social Create Date
Organic Social Post ID
Create a post type dimension
Create a custom dimension to group posts by content type, such as video, text or photo.
Create a custom dimension named Post Type.
Add rules that map each connector's content type field to your common post type values.
Save the dimension.
Create standard metrics
Go to Metrics.
Click + Create with Standard Rules.
Add these metrics:
Organic Social Post Engagement
Organic Social Video Views
Create custom metrics
Create a total followers metric
Create a custom metric named Total Followers.
Add rules that map the follower or subscriber field from each connector to this metric.
Save the metric.
Create an engagement rate metric
Create a custom metric named Engagement Rate.
Divide post engagements by impressions.
Format the result as a percentage.
Save the metric.
Verify the fields
Open Data Explorer.
Add the new dimensions and metrics to a view.
Compare the values with the source accounts.
Correct any custom rules that do not produce the expected values.
