Manage data sources in Funnel AI

Add, change, delete and restore data sources from a Funnel AI chat.

Ask Funnel AI to add a data source or change an existing one without leaving the chat. By default, Funnel AI shows each change on a card and waits for your approval.

Before you begin

  • You have permission to edit data sources in the workspace: the workspace Editor role, or Data Source Editor where granular roles are available. Without it, Funnel AI doesn't offer to manage data sources and tells you that a workspace admin can change your role.

  • Funnel AI offers only the connectors your workspace can use.

  • Funnel AI uses only Funnel's preset data source templates. To use your own template, set up the data source in Data > Connect > Data sources. For more about templates, see What are Data Source Templates and how do I use them?.

Add a data source

  1. In the top bar, click Show AI chat, or press Cmd+J (Mac) or Ctrl+J (Windows). You can also go to AI > New chat in the left menu.

  2. Ask Funnel AI to add a data source and name the connector. For example: Add a Google Ads data source.

Note: Some connectors need setup options that Funnel AI doesn't support yet. Funnel AI then tells you it can't create this connector yet. Finish the setup in Data > Connect > Data sources.

  3. Choose the connection Funnel should use to sign in to the connector. If only one connection fits, Funnel AI selects it for you.

Note: If you aren't signed in to the connector yet, Funnel AI asks you to sign in from the chat. Sign in, then ask Funnel AI again.

  4. Choose the account to import data from. You choose the account even when there is only one.

  5. Choose a template. You choose the template even when there is only one.

  6. Review the Create this data source? card. It shows the workspace, connector, connection, account, template and data source name.

  7. Click Create data source, or click Cancel to discard it.

Funnel AI creates one data source at a time.

Change a data source

  1. In the chat, ask Funnel AI for the change and name the data source. For example: Turn off downloads for the Google Ads Brand data source.

  2. Review the card that Funnel AI shows.

  3. Approve the change on the card, or click Cancel. The table shows how to approve each change.

Change

How to approve it

What happens

Rename

Edit the Source name field and click Save name.

The data source gets the new name.

Turn downloads on or off

Turn the Download new data toggle on or off. This approves and submits the change.

Turning it off stops future downloads. Data that's already downloaded stays.

Include or exclude from Funnel

Turn the Use in Funnel toggle on or off. This approves and submits the change.

Turning it off excludes the data source from Funnel reporting but doesn't stop downloads.

Reconnect

Approve the change on the Reconnect data source card.

The data source uses another connection.

Switch template

Approve the change on the Reconfigure data source card.

The data source uses another of Funnel's preset templates.

Delete

Click Delete data source.

The data source is deleted. Funnel keeps deleted data sources for 31 days, and data that's already downloaded isn't erased.

Restore

Click Restore data source.

The deleted data source comes back. Check it afterward, because downloads and reporting might not start again on their own.

Note: When only one card is waiting for your answer, you can reply Yes in the chat to approve it or No to cancel it.

Choose which changes need your approval

In AI > Tool permissions, under Data sources, you can set these actions to Always allow: Rename data sources and Restore deleted data sources. Funnel AI then makes those changes without showing a card, and the chat shows Auto-approved by tool permissions. If a card shows Always allow, click it to approve the change and skip the card for that action from then on. For more, see Manage tool permissions in Funnel AI.

Funnel AI always asks before it:

  • Adds, deletes or reconnects a data source.

  • Switches the template of a data source.

  • Turns Download new data or Use in Funnel on or off.

Use Funnel MCP

You can do the same tasks from an AI client connected to Funnel MCP, such as Claude or ChatGPT. Your AI client shows you each change and asks you to approve it before Funnel makes it. For the steps and limits, see Manage data sources using Funnel MCP.

To connect a client, see Quick start guide: Using Funnel MCP.

What to expect

The data source shows your change in Data > Connect > Data sources. A new data source exists as soon as you approve it, but Funnel AI doesn't check its first download, so confirm that data arrives.
