Spend Mapper

Map your spend from funnel.io to your Adtriba campaigns

Note: Adtriba Core is a legacy feature that we continue to support but no longer sell. The latest version of this feature is available as Funnel Measurement.
If you are already using Funnel Measurement, find more information here. To upgrade, contact us.

Matching costs across platforms is difficult when campaign names differ between platforms. The Spend Mapper maps campaign costs to Adtriba campaigns.

Spend Mapper V1 and V2 mapped at the campaign level. Spend Mapper V3 adds mapping at the source level. Source-level mapping is simpler when you have many campaigns. You can still map at the campaign level.

Adtriba launched Spend Mapper V3 in 2023. The Spend Mapper maps campaign costs from data aggregation services (aggregated data with cost information) to the correct Adtriba campaigns.

Complete Channel Mapper setup before using the Spend Mapper. The Spend Mapper displays channels from the Channel Mapper configuration.

Note: Any changes taking place in the Channel Mapper need up to 2 days to also be visible in the Spend Mapper.

Where to find the spend mapper

The Spend Mapper UI looks quite similar to the Performance Report UI. That is because they both follow the same structure, meaning they follow the same hierarchy. It displays the channels, within the channels, you can find the different sources that belong to that channel, and within the sources, you can find the corresponding campaigns.

How does the spend mapper work?

These points explain how the Spend Mapper works and what advantages V3 offers over previous versions.

  • Date and Project Selection:

The upper part of the Spend Mapper shows the date selection (same as elsewhere in the Adtriba UI). You can choose dates for the performance report (see screenshot below).

Note: The Spend Mapper is not affected by the date selection. The selected dates do not matter while you use the Spend Mapper.

The selected project does matter. Each project has its own spend.

  • Helping Features:

The top right corner shows UNMAPPED SPEND in red. This shows spend that still needs mapping.

Click the coin icon to the left. A tab opens with sources imported from Funnel.io (source names match Funnel.io) that are not yet matched to Adtriba campaigns.

  • Channel View:

The Spend Mapper channel view looks like this:

TableDescription automatically generated

The screen shows channels configured in the Channel Mapper (Channel/Source/Campaign). This makes the Spend Mapper easier to use.

The general Spend Mapper view has these columns:

  1. Channel Number: Unique identification number of each channel.

  2. Channel Name: Name of each channel.

  3. Channel Status: Status of the channel. If sources are mapped to the channel, the status is mapped. Not all campaigns need to be mapped for a channel to be mapped.

  4. Spend: Total spend for each channel.

  5. Conversions: Total conversions for each channel.

  6. Sources: Number of sources in each channel.

  7. Mapped Sources: Number of mapped sources in each channel.

Note: If a channel or source has no spending data, it remains unmapped. This keeps the Spend Mapper data accurate.

  • Source View:

Click a specific channel (for example SEA Non-Brand in the Adtriba Test Account) to open the channel view. The view shows:

The view shows sources for that channel (for example Bing and Google).

Note: You cannot map campaigns within a source until the source is mapped at the source level. The last two columns show how many campaigns each source contains and how many are mapped.

To map a source, click Edit in the Status column. This window opens:

Set groups of rules to map sources. This step is mandatory. Each group can contain one or more rules. Groups use an OR relationship. Rules within a group use an AND relationship.

The final step maps campaigns at the highest granularity. Select which Funnel.io campaigns match Adtriba campaigns.

After you save the mapping, it applies to reporting the next morning.

Frequently asked questions

1. When mapping campaigns, some sources show an empty campaign drop-down. How do I fix this?

The source view rule does not select any campaigns. Check and correct the rule in the source view. Campaigns should then appear in the drop-down.

2. When I change rules, are changes reflected in past data?

Yes. Spend Mapper changes apply to all data, including historical data.

3. Can I add rules with medium conditions, like in the Channel Mapper?

No. The campaign level is the maximum granularity in the Spend Mapper.

4. Why do some campaigns appear more than once in the drop-down?

A campaign can belong to more than one sub-platform. The campaign appears multiple times if the rule does not target one specific sub-platform. Use more specific rules in the source view to show only the desired campaigns.

5. I cannot see which sub-platform belongs to which campaign in the drop-down. Does it matter which one I choose?

The drop-down does not show sub-platforms per campaign. Select all matching campaigns or change the rule to target a specific sub-platform.

6. What if I cannot find a matching Adtriba campaign for my Funnel campaign?

This can happen for these reasons:

  • Granularity or tracking parameter structure

Media platform campaign names often differ from tracking parameter names. The same campaign can have different names in Adtriba and Funnel.

Increase Funnel campaign naming granularity if your Adtriba campaign uses ad group instead of campaign. Or ask your marketing managers for a lookup table of platform names and tracking parameter naming conventions.

  • History is too old

By default, Adtriba pulls 6 months of campaign history from Funnel. If you recently started, campaigns may be outdated and no longer generate traffic or conversions. Adtriba will not show these campaigns in the drop-down. Hide these campaigns.

  • No conversions for the campaign

Adtriba shows only campaigns with at least one conversion in the drop-down. If your campaign has no attributed conversions but you still want to apply costs to the source (for example Facebook), Adtriba can create an artificial campaign for each source that carries only costs.
