Build an organic social media overview from your Funnel data with the organic social media overview template. The template uses an Extract Data source and blended data. Allow about one hour to complete this task.
Before you begin
You can create and edit exports in your Funnel workspace.
You can create and edit data sources and reports in Google Data Studio.
Create the Google Data Studio export
Create a Google Data Studio export by following Export Funnel data to Google Data Studio.
Add all the fields shown in the following image.
(Optional) Add other fields that you want to use in your report.
Save the export.
Connect the export to Google Data Studio.
Name the data source. For example, enter
My Company Social Organic.
Prepare the data in Google Data Studio
Convert the post creation date
Complete this procedure only if Social Organic Post Created Date has the Text data type:
Edit the Google Data Studio data source.
Click Add a field.
Enter a name for the new date field.
Enter this formula:
PARSE_DATE("%Y-%m-%d", Social Organic Post Created Date)
Save the field.
Skip this procedure if Social Organic Post Created Date already has the Date data type.
Create an Extract Data source
Use an Extract Data source so you can select the post creation date as the date dimension. The source stores a snapshot of the selected data for a specified period.
In Google Data Studio, create an Extract Data source from the Funnel data source.
Select all the fields that the dashboard requires.
Select the converted post creation date as the date dimension.
Save the data source.
Your Extract Data source should contain the highlighted fields in the following image.
Connect your data to the template
Before you continue, confirm that you have these Google Data Studio data sources:
The data source connected directly to your Funnel export.
The Extract Data source.
Open the organic social media overview template.
In the upper-right corner, click Use my own data.
Click Replace data.
Select the matching Funnel data source.
Repeat the replacement for each data source in the template.
Click Edit and share.
What to expect
Google Data Studio creates an editable copy of the template that displays your organic social data. You can change the charts, blends and report settings to match your reporting needs.
